Kuan Yin, originally known as Avalokiteswara ('the Lord who regards'), is a highly revered manifestation of the Buddha who appears in Chinese scriptures around 400 A.D. She is usually represented as a young female deity but she has the power to assume whatever form necessary in order to carry out her vow which is to appear in any way necessary to lead beings out of suffering. She is often shown holding a vase containing the waters of compassion, the lotus flower of enlightment or the jewel of three treasures. The statue is made of Bonded Stone, approximately 7.0" H x 4.5" W x 4.5" D, weighing 2.2 lbs

NO TIME TO LOSE
A Timely Guide to the Way of the Bodhisattva
by Pema Chödrön
OVER THE YEARS, Pema Chödrön's books have offered readers an exciting new way of living: developing fearlessness, generosity, and compassion in all aspects of our lives. In this book she invites readers to venture further along the path of the "bodhisattva warrior", explaining in depth how we can awaken the softness of our hearts and develop true confidence amid the challenges of daily living. In No Time to Lose Chödrön reveals the traditional Buddhist reachings that guide her own life: those of The Way of the Bodhisattva (Bodhicharyavatara), a text written by the eighth-century sage Shantideva. This treasured Buddhist work is remarkably relevant for our times, describing the steps we can take to cultivate courage, caring, and joy - the keys to healing ourselves and our troubled world. Chödrön offers us a highly practical and engaging commentary on this essential text, explaining how its profound teachings can be applied to our daily lives.

How to Change Your Life by Ernest Holmes How to Change Your Life
An Inspirational, Life-Changing Classic from the Ernest Holmes Library
by Ernest Holmes
How to Change your Life was the book chosen to accompany the Center for Spiritual Life Santa Rosa theme for January 2009
Whatever your personal desires are, you have the right to attain them - and you can.
If you find yourself asking what the secret to making your dreams come true is, look no further than the teachings of Ernest Holmes, founder of the Science of Mind philosophy and movement. Written in 1957, Holmes's powerful book, How to Change your Life, is the original pathway to discovering the ability within you to attain your dreams. Holmes said, "The power lies within your mind and the way you use it." His succinct, yet timeless observations show you how to use the wisdom of God to improve your life. How to Change your Life presents ideas on life and God essential to contemporary spiritual understanding: how science and spirituality have merged and what that means for you as well as step-by-step instructions for using the Science of Mind to improve your experiences of life.
Dr. Holmes was a great spiritual scientist who provides empirical evidence for his realizations of the original purpose of life. You, too, by experimenting in the laboratory of your own life using the techniques described in these pages, will prove, as he did, that thoughts are the things that create your life."

How Can I Help? by Ram Dass and Paul Gorman How Can I Help?
Stories and Reflections on Service
by Ram Dass and Paul Gorman
*** This is a book to accompany Spirit is Calling for September 2008
Not a day goes by without our being called upon to help one another - at home, at work, on the street, on the phone... We do what we can. Yet so much comes up to complicate this natural response: "Will I have what it takes?" "How much is enough?" "How can I deal with suffering?" "And what really helps, anyway?"
In this practical helper's companion, the authors explore a path through these confusions and provide support and inspiration for us in our efforts as volunteers, as members of the helping professions, or simply as friends and family trying to meet each other's needs. Here too are deeply moving personal accounts: A housewife brings animals to lift the spirits of nursing home residents; a police officer talks a desperate father out of leaping from a roof with his child; a nurse allows an infant to spend its last moments of life in her arms rather than on a hospital machine. From many such stories and the authors' reflections, we can find strength, clarity, and wisdom for those times when we are called on to care for one another. How Can I Help? reminds us just how much we have to give and how doing so can lead to some of the most joyous moments of our lives.
